Questions To Ask When Buying a Business - Looking To Make Money?

Ice cream was invented in 2000 BC. Yet it was 3, 900 years on before somebody worked out the ice cream cone. Beef was on the world before humans. Bread was baked in 2600 BC. However , it took another 4, 300 years for someone to put them together and create the sandwich. And the modern flush toilet was invented in 1775, but it wasn t until 1857 that someone thought up toilet paper.

Once these clear connections have been made, they appear so apparent. So evident. We will be able to t believe we didn t see them earlier. A never ending number of these unmade connections exist to this day, especially in the business world. You are surrounded by easy, plain solutions that can dramatically boost your earnings, power, influence and success. The problem is, you simply don t see them.

Before Henry Ford would hire anyone for a crucial position, he'd have lunch with them. If the potential worker would salt the food before tasting it, Mr. Ford would not hire the person. The reason? Salting the food before tasting it indicated the person would implement a plan before testing it - ergo, no job. Was Henry Ford too acute with his hiring policy based on salting food before testing? Perhaps . But, then again, Henry Ford was America s first billionaire.

One company that seemingly didn t test enough is the maker of Excedrin. Many years ago they ran a multi-million dollar, national advertising campaign showing different, above-average headaches and assigning them numbers, like Excedrin headache nine, Excedrin headache twenty-three, etc, where Excedrin relieved the agony. The campaign created great name recognition and was seemingly very successful. But, in truth, sales went down. The company later learned that folks were aware of the campaign and said that Excedrin was a superb, stronger-than-average pain reliever. And if they'd a harsh headache they had a severe headache they would definitely take Excedrin. But if they'd merely an average headache, Excedrin was a stronger medication than they needed, so they would take a milder pain reliever like aspirin. The company might have saved millions of bucks and not lost market had they done one straightforward thing. TEST.

Sensible questions to ask when buying a business?
I've been offered the chance to take over a small local business, printing magazines which offer adverts & free listings. I know the cost to buy the business, number of copies printed & number of distribution points. But that's about it! I'd like to ask: Turnover & expenses How the business was valued Number of regular/one-off advertisers Number of calls made to advertisers & how many of these result in adverts How much time is spent on the various activities associated with the business I only have a day or two and I'd like to knof if anyone can think of anything else I should ask! I don't have a Bank Manager or Business Manager & will be financing this privately. The business is valued at about $10k which is the price that the current owner is asking. Also there is no building, no lease, no equipment! This is a very small enterprise which can be run from home on a home PC.
